Formula

The math behind the number

No black box — here's exactly how the result is computed.

Formula (Mifflin-St Jeor)

Men: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age + 5
Women: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age − 161

Examples

Real-world scenarios

See how the numbers play out for typical use cases.

Scenario 1

Adult male

Male, 30 years, 75kg, 178cm → BMR = 10×75 + 6.25×178 − 5×30 + 5 = 1,808 kcal/day.

Scenario 2

Adult female

Female, 28 years, 62kg, 163cm → BMR = 10×62 + 6.25×163 − 5×28 − 161 = 1,400 kcal/day.
